The National Women's History Museum
news & events

May 2010– Schultz & Williams (S&W) begins work with the National Women’s History Museum in their efforts to establish a home and lasting legacy on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

Recognizing the under-representation of women’s accomplishments in mainstream history museums, the National Women’s History Museum (NWHM) affirms the value of knowing Women's History illuminates the role of women in transforming society and encourages all people, women and men, to participate in democratic dialogue about our future.

Since it began in 1996, NWHM has worked tirelessly for Congressional permission to obtain permanent museum space on the National Mall. Undeterred by a lack of physical space, NWHM has continued to offer exceptional online educational resources and cyber-exhibitions. Meanwhile, the Museum has advocated for a presence alongside other historically and culturally significant national museums in the nation’s capital.

Finally, Congress has heard the call. NWHM successfully harnessed the power and support of distinguished women like Dr. Sally Ride – the first American woman in space, award-winning actress Meryl Streep, and a diverse coalition of women’s organizations reaching millions of members. Legislation is now pending for the purchase of land to build the National Women’s History Museum.

Yet with $300 to $400 million necessary for construction and initial start up costs, NWHM must continue to forge ahead and secure the necessary short- and long-term resources.

Building on NWMH’s current momentum, S&W is providing strategic development counsel focusing on major gifts. S&W will help NWHM lay the essential groundwork for a robust national major gifts campaign, integrating leadership and strategic planning with communications and development.

S&W will work closely with NWHM, the planning and design team for the new museum site, and other key partners and stakeholders, to develop a high-level philanthropy program that will accomplish NWHM’s critical fundraising objectives.

S&W is honored to be a part of the National Women’s History’s Museum’s pioneering efforts. In the words of NWHM’s founder, Karen Staser:

A better world awaits the generation that absorbs what women and men have to share about life from a joint perspective. Together all things are possible.”
